Getting Some Facial Definition with Chin Liposuction
The chin is generally considered to be one of the quickest and easiest spots to conduct liposuction on. Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking of getting some chin liposuction.
Why You Need It
It has often been said that the chin is a defining factor in a person’s face. People often get first impression character judgments based on the shape of their chins. Individuals may be seen as weak or strong based purely on the appearance of their chins. If you would therefore like to make better impressions, then you may want to undergo chin liposuction.
Chin liposuction is a preferred option over exercise and chin straps. Chin exercises may work a bit in toning chin muscles but it may do nothing at all about chin fat. This is because chin exercises may not be able to burn stubborn chin fat. Chin straps on the other hand do not work at all. Again, there is no evidence that chin straps can significantly burn chin fat.
Candidate
As with all other types of liposuction, a good candidate for chin liposuction is one who is healthy and near one’s ideal body weight. Although some practitioners may claim that age is not a significant factor, you should know that it may be an important point for consideration after all.
People who have good chin liposuction results are those who have fairly elastic skin. Older people who have less elastic skin may therefore end up with some extra sagging skin. Although chin liposuction procedures seem to have a tightening effect on chin and neck skin, it cannot significantly tighten skin that is too saggy to begin with. People who do not have elastic skin may have to pair chin liposuction with neck or face lift procedures.
Procedure
Local anesthesia is usually injected below the chin or behind the lower lip. Once the skin and fat are numbed, tiny incisions are then made and hidden somewhere beneath the jaw line. A cannula for chin liposuction that is approximately 2mm in diameter is then inserted in the incision. The fat is then suctioned with a vacuum pump. Chin liposuction may take as short as 30 minutes because of the limited fat deposits in the chin. The incisions are then dressed and strapped.
Recovery
Chin liposuction, like all other types of liposuction, results in some normal fluid drainage. There may also be some minimal bruising and swelling that may disappear after a few days. A client may take one to three days off work but light tasks may be performed within the recovery days. A compression garment though may have to be worn for a few days.
Doctor’s Judgment
The importance of having a good doctor cannot be stressed enough for this procedure. This is because optimum results lie in a doctor’s ability to predict results. Before beginning the surgical procedure, photos should be taken of your chin profile. The doctor will then predict and tell you what you should expect with the assistance of computer software. An incompetent doctor or one who is only trying to sell a procedure may not tell you outright that there may be some sagging skin or that your chin will not be as perfect as you expect.
